Western Coalfields invest in Universal Equipment Simulator from Tecknotrove

Western Coalfields a subsidiary – of Coal India Limited has recently invested in a state-of-the-art ‘Universal Equipment Simulator’ from mining simulation specialist Tecknotrove Systems. Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) is one of the eight subsidiary companies of Coal India Limited (CIL) which is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Coal and is one of the largest coal mines in the world that operates out of 82 mines across India. Western Coalfields is known for its outstanding achievement of producing 2.52 Lakh Tonnes of coal- the highest single-day coal production for the financial year 2022-23 and has launched a roadmap to achieve beyond 75 million tonnes of output by FY 2023-24 as its contribution towards the ambitious 1 billion tonnes target of parent firm Coal India.

In addition to improving productivity, the safety of its people at mines has always been a priority focus across operations for this mining company, by investing in Tecknotrove’s Universal Equipment Simulator in their training programs at mines, WCL will now be able to develop the skills of their mine operators in a safe and highly realistic virtual environment safely and cost-effectively.

Installed at a centrally located training facility in Durgapur situated in Eastern India, Tecknotrove Universal Equipment Simulator simulates Hydraulic Excavators from Tata EX1200 and BEML -1000 hydraulic excavators. The Universal Equipment Simulator is an exact replica of the hydraulic excavator with an actual seat, joysticks, and fully functional controls. The simulator cabin is mounted on a 6DOF motion platform providing a highly realistic surface interaction. The large projection display in front provides an in-cab view to the operators and a realistic view of operating in mines. The ergonomics and equipment dynamics are so realistic that operators feel as if they are operating an actual hydraulic excavator. The training modules in built in the simulator are developed with a targeted training approach for experienced personnel and a progressive training approach for the skill development of novice operators.
